Thank you for visiting my capstone site! I would love feedback on the following...
How do you feel about the art style? I wanted to try out a new one for this project that didn't place as much emphasis on linework
Does the premise of my work make sense? I haven't done a comic before so I'm not entirely used to the storytelling part of the media. My original message was centered around adult ADHD. A huge part of ADHD is your environment, hence the name of my work, and some environments and lifestyles are just, simply put, really bad for people who aren't neurotypical. But once you grow up some and have more control over your environment, symptoms can lessen because you can choose when to take it slow, speed up, or step away from a situation that might bring you discomfort. And at first, stepping away may feel wrong, but in the end it's your life and if you function better in a different type of environment than everyone else then you should take that opportunity and live where you are happiest.
I feel like a huge part of the collective neurodivergent experience, whether you have ADHD, ADD, anxiety, or anything else, is looking at someone and thinking "why can't I do what they're doing?". Back in high school, I never quite understood how people were able to balance AP classes, sports, and a part time job meanwhile I was over here barely able to deal with my calc and spanish class. I feel like with school and early life in general, there's a highlighted, "ideal" path (in my case, the top of the class working athlete path) that people want you to take and those who either can't keep up due to mental or physical reasons, or simply just don't want to follow that path, are judged for straying. Does this feeling resonate with anyone else? Or do you have a different experience? And again, these experiences are not limited to those who have been officially diagnosed with something, because mental illness does not start existing the moment a doctor gives you the diagnosis. And even if you are neurotypical but still find a connection with the message, feel free to share any ideas or experiences that you may have.
Hi Erin! I love your handsome lads.
I like the art style a lot, it really allows the rather deep concepts you're representing to feel easier to confront and understand. The little plant babies are very approachable and the use of linework is very effective in drawing the viewer's eye to the relevant details, while the unlined background conveys the environment without overpowering the characters, instead existing alongside and behind them. The smoothness of the style and the use of shapes also elicits a calm atmosphere that allows the audience to sort of vibe with the story, it almost reads like one of those commercials you get on YouTube for those meditation apps with the soothing narrator voice and the…
